Why Don’t You Do Right?

We don’t do this often, but today we are featuring a song that was covered in a Disney movie. ‘Why Don’t You Do Right?’

‘Why Don’t You Do Right?’ was written by Kansas Joe McCoy, and most famously recorded by Peggy Lee and Benny Goodman in 1942, (Who Framed Roger Rabbit? takes place in 1947). Although Kathleen Turner provided Jessica Rabbits speaking voice, Amy Irving was the voice you hear singing the song.

Let’s start the covers with Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa’s cover from their album Black Coffee

Roosevelt Grier has a version closer to the original on his album Soul Classics

Up next are a couple of more famous singers covering the song: Lana Del Rey . . .

. . .and SinĂ©ad O’Connor from her album Am I Not Your Girl?

We’ll close with this live version by the Carolina Chocolate Drops
