Top 10 1980’s covers from Sky High

The kids are going back to school, and that of course reminds me of one of the best high school movies out there:

The 2005 film Sky High was a fun superhero / high school mash up. To really sell the nostalgic high school vibes, they filled the soundtrack with covers of 80’s hits. Here are my favorites:

10 ‘Voices Carry’ by Vitamin C (Originally by: ‘Til Tuesday) This is a perfect example of what this album contains, popular acts from the early 2000’s covering hits from the 80’s

9 ‘True’ by Cary Brothers (Originally by: Spandau Ballet)  for some reason, whenever I hear this song, it always reminds me of ‘Set Adrift on Memory Bliss’

8 ‘Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want’ by Elefant (Originally by: The Smiths) Heard this one before I’d heard the original. Had to go look it up.

7 ‘Just What I Needed’ by Caleigh Peters (Originally by: The Cars)

6 ‘Everybody Wants to Rule the World’ by Christian Burns (Originally by: Tears for Fears) I think this is the first song you hear in the movie. and maybe the last also.

5 ‘I Melt with You’ by Bowling for Soup (Originally by: Modern English) such a fun band!

4 ‘Save It for Later’ by Flashlight Brown (Originally by: The Beat) another one where I never heard the original, what was I doing in the 80’s?

3 ‘Through Being Cool’ by They Might Be Giants (Originally by: Devo) Such a great band, and they have plenty of great Disney covers too.

2 ‘One Thing Leads to Another’ by Steven Strait (Originally by: The Fixx) It’s a Disney movie, so you can’t be too surprised that one of the stars has a song on the soundtrack.

1 ‘Lies’ by The Click Five (Originally by: Thompson Twins) really like this band, wish they were still around.

This list is based on the cover versions, it would be different if I was ranking how much I love the originals. There are a few more great cover songs on the album, and here they are:

Can’t Stop the World’ by Ginger Sling (Originally by: The Go-Go’s)

‘And She Was’ by Keaton Simons (Originally by: Talking Heads)

‘Twist and Crawl’ by Skindred (Originally by: The Beat)
